The premise of Awakening, by Celebration Church Lead Pastor and founder, Stovall Weems, is not settle for normal Christianity but to have it be passionate, which would become the new normal. Awakening is a book about the spiritual discipline of fasting and how through this discipline we can leave behind our normal, ho-hum faith and be passionate Christ-followers. The problem with having a passionate faith, according to Weems, is that one word- fast.There are a few keywords that appear repeatedly in the book: zeal and renewal. To have these words become a part of our faith, it takes discipline and dedication, or according to Weems- fasting. Awakening is more than a book, it is a study guide to give you help and answers to questions about fasting because Weems does in fact want each Believer to experience the freshness of a relationship with God that followers of the early church had.Awakening challenged me to incorporate the discipline of fasting more often in my life; it is that good of a book! The typical American church attendee is not lacking in anything and because we are quite comfortable, often times we don't feel the need to seek God. For those really seeking answers for why we need to fast in this day ... Great answers are found in this book. No more guessing why the New Testament believer needs to fast or who will benefit from it! Clearly stating the purpose for a fast and who should consider this incredible life changing "exercise" of faith. The pressure is off "performance" and on to a continuation of a transforming power of having a personal relationship with the Savior. For the person who for health or other reasons feel they can't fast ... There are a number of great alternatives to the "normal" food free fast.
The information in the book is inspiring and practical. Somehow I am MISSING PAGES 51-82!!! I take notes, highlight, and underline in many of my devotionals. By the time I reached page 50, it was too late to return it. I reached out to the publisher and they are sending me a new copy.
I love this book! It will awaken your spirit to the presence of God in your life. You can follow any kind of fast that you feel God leads you to follow. I am going to do it for the third time this coming January.I did develop a problem with the Kindle addition being able to take me to the right page since the plan takes you to different areas of the book each day.
I liked the positive aspects of fasting that were presented. Rather than feeling like I was “giving up†food I felt it was truly more of an act of love and thankfulness.
I did his mini devotional and got hooked. I am now reading this book and it is amazing! So glad I bought it.
This is a great book. I volunteer at celebration church and i love this book i use it every time we fast. I loved it so much i gave my hard copy to a friend and bought the ebook version and the audible version.
What a great book to enjoy anytime to help awaken your spiritual senses.
